Alvina Olga Hunstiger, age 89, life-long Vergas, MN, resident, passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Sanford Health Palliative Care in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her family.
Memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Loon Lake. A time of visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Friday, August 26, 2016, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Loon Lake with a prayer service to take place at 7 p.m. Friends and family may gather one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Alvina Olga Hunstiger was born to Rudolph and Minna (Kratzke) Wischnak on November 27, 1926. She attended country school through the 8
th
grade. She did have to walk 3 miles to school, uphill both ways. She enjoyed stopping for crackers at her uncle Fred’s, after school.
Following her 8
th
grade graduation, Alvina babysat a lot of little ones. She was a live in nanny until she married. Being a stubborn German, she wouldn’t accept an engagement ring until she turned 21. Alvina married Lester Soland on July 11, 1948, in Pelican Rapids. Lester passed away August 19, 1976. Alvina was a widow for 17 years then married her new neighbor, Bill Hunstiger on November 27, 1993. They were together until Bill’s passing in 2009.
Alvina worked many places. She skun mink, waitressed, cooked, cleaned and worked at the insulation plant and turkey plant. “Can’t” was not in her vocabulary. She enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing, and cutting wood. She liked watching the birds and growing flowers; above all, she loved her family the most.
Alvina is survived by 2 daughters: Sandy (Steven) Wendt of Vergas and Holly Rudolph of Vergas; son-in-law, Stuart Evert; grandchildren: Kyle (Christie) Diederich of Vergas, Keith Diederich of Detroit Lakes, Serenity (Bill) Orth of Anchorage, AK, Justin Evert of Vergas, Justin (Kalynn) Wendt of Minneapolis, Josh Wendt of Perham, Erin (Ryan) Stoffel of Fargo, ND, Stephanie (fiancé, Paul Hyothia) Wendt of Ottertail, Jacob Wendt of Vergas; adopted grandson, Wade Moltzan; great grandchildren: Connor Diederich, Billy, Tyler, Catherine Orth, Sonora, Colten, Novalee, Hollis, Ophelia, Madison, William, Eli, Abigail, Ellie, Paisley, Jade and Isabella; 1 sister, Adeline Sherebrooke; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Alvina in death were her parents; husbands: Lester Soland and Bill Hunstiger; granddaughter, Christina Evert; 2 sisters: Bertha Moltzan and Anna Manke; and 1 brother, Ernest Wischnak.
