Delores Gunthorpe

December 4, 1928 — September 3, 2012

Delores M. Gunthorpe, age 83, of Frazee, MN, passed away Monday, September 3, 2012, at Frazee Care Center under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Refreshments will be served following the service. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo, ND. Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, MN is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Delores was born December 4, 1928, in Thief River Falls, MN, the youngest of 4 children born to Emil and Lilly (Johnson) Person. She grew up in the rural community of Black River and graduate from high school in Thief River Falls, MN. Following high school, Delores went on to attend cosmetology school in Minneapolis, MN.

She was married to David Gunthorpe on June 14, 1952, at Thief River Falls. The union was blessed with two children: James and Jill. The young family then made their home in Moorhead, MN, for a time, eventually settling in Omaha, NE. Delores enjoyed taking care of her family and also enjoyed participating in the local garden club. The family enjoyed their summers at their cabin on Wymer Lake. Upon their retirement, David and Delores turned their Wymer Lake cabin into a year round home which they truly enjoyed.

Delores' life was saddened by the death of her husband, David in 2003. Delores spent the last 10 years as a resident at the Frazee Care Center.

Delores is survived by her two children: James Gunthorpe of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Jill (Gregg) Phillips of Rosemount, MN; 5 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Evie (Bob) Tetherow and Arlene (Don) Scurlock of CA; nieces, Linda Legreid, Judy Dodge, Donna and Diane Scurlock, and nephews Steve and Jim Tetherow.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David; and 1 sister, Myrtle (Len) Wick.
