Dennis was born in Perham, Minnesota, on March 17, 1945, the son of George and Violet Palmer. He grew up and managed the homestead dairy farm
.
He was a life-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Evergreen, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a graduate of Frazee High School with the class of 1963.
He enjoyed all kinds of hunting, especially bear, deer and elk. Beginning October 1st, all farming halted and his main focus was preparations to ensure getting the largest buck with best and biggest anthers. He enjoyed many trips to Montana to elk hunt.
As soon as winter ice was thick enough, the handmade fish house he built with brother-in-law, Bill, was out on the lake. He loved the camaraderie and challenge of spearing and angling fish.
He found great joy in teaching and helping nephews and nieces with target shooting, hunting, etc., and was always sure each one had a deer stand during hunting season.
He was a whistler and we always knew where he was by listening which direction it was coming from. He loved music, especially Old-Time Country and Gospel. He was a very gentle, loving man who took all his nieces, nephews and sisters under his wing. He served on the Evergreen Township board for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents George and Violet Palmer, and brother-in-law, Bill Derke.
