DeWayne A. Bruns

DeWayne A. Bruns, 90, was born September 17, 1934 to August H. Bruns and Emma R. Bruns (Zilmer).

DeWayne graduated in 1951 from Frazee High School and soon after married the love of his life, Cynthia Carter, on December 16, 1956. Cynthia was daughter to Arthur G. and Lillius Carter (Stanforth) at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vergas, MN, where DeWayne was a lifelong member.

After being drafted into the ARMY and receiving an honorable discharge, DeWayne remained on the family farm in rural Vergas where he managed a dairy cattle operation for many years. When DeWayne retired from farming, he began working at Swanson’s Repair in Detroit Lakes, MN.

DeWayne and Cindy enjoyed going camping at the lake in the summers, gardening, fishing, and playing cards with friends. During the winter months, they enjoyed going snowmobiling. They also hosted many family gatherings over the years, creating cherished memories for the generations that would follow them. After Cindy passed in 2013, DeWayne moved into Vergas Senior Living in Vergas, MN.

DeWayne is survived by his nephew, Marlin (Luann) Flatau of Hutchinson, MN; niece, Cheryl Coscaret of California; sister in law, Phyllis Jordan of California; as well as too many of Cindy’s nieces and nephews to list here!

DeWayne was preceded in death by his parents, August and Emma; his wife of 56 years, Cindy; sister, Elenor Flatau; brother in law, Lloyd Flatau; nephew, Lloyd Flatau Jr.; and his niece, Ella-loy Flatau.

The family would like to thank all the family and friends who called and visited DeWayne over the years. He truly appreciated everyone. A special thank you to the girls at Vergas Assisted Living for taking such good care of our Uncle DeWayne.

A funeral will be conducted for DeWayne on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Vergas beginning with a visitation and viewing at 10am, followed by formal services at 11am. A graveside interment will be conducted at St. Johns Cemetery in Vergas immediately following.
