Doreen Joyce Moore was born in Maddock, ND, to Mildred Nelson Moore and George Wellington Moore on March 30th, 1944. Doreen was baptized into the Christian faith as a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, Grandfield Township, rural Sheyenne, ND.
In 1945, her family moved to New Rockford, ND. From an early age, Doreen developed a fond affection for music, taking private piano lessons and later riding the train every weekend to Fargo to take private organ lessons. As early as age 14, Doreen began her lifelong passion as a church organist/pianist at Lutheran churches, where she also sang in the choirs. She attended school at New Rockford Central School, where she was a cheerleader, played trombone in the concert band, and sang in the choir. She was also the main accompanist for the concert choir.
Doreen attended Concordia College (Moorhead, MN) in 1962-63 and later Moorhead State College (now Minnesota State University – Moorhead). She attained a Certified Professional Secretary rating in 1977 and was a board member for the Professional Secretaries International for numerous years. Her profession as a secretary included employment at the Barnes County Welfare Office in Valley City, ND; National Electrical Contractors Association, Fargo; Executive Assistant to the CEO at Steiger Tractor, Inc., Fargo; and finished her career retiring as Executive Assistant to the President/CEO of Community First Bankshares, Inc., where she was one of the original 10 employees of the bank holding company.
Doreen married William Johnson of New Rockford in 1962. They had three children, daughters Billi and Lori, and son Todd.
On April 20th, 1991, Doreen married David Green of Frazee, MN. They lived in Moorhead until 2002, when they moved to their lake home on Acorn Lake near Frazee, MN. There, Doreen continued to serve as organist/pianist at various churches, as well as playing for weddings and funerals. She also maintained a home-based business as an independent sales representative for Avon products. At the lake, Doreen enjoyed pontoon rides and walks around the property with Dave, taking in their numerous flower and vegetable gardens.
In January of 2022, Doreen suffered a tragic fall causing her to lose most of the function of all four of her limbs. This was followed by a lengthy rehabilitation and eventually a move to the Frazee Care Center in Frazee, MN.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mildred; her brother, George Junior; and sister, Barbara Swanson.
Left to celebrate her life are her husband, David; her daughters, Billi (Lee) Schauer of Fargo and Lori (Glenn) Johnson of Omaha, NE; her son, Todd Johnson of Roundup, MT; her sister, Gayle Moore-Morrans of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; her stepchildren, Todd (Cindy) Green, Terry (Sandy) Green, and Tami (Dave) Sublette; her grandchildren, Captain Joe (Amy) Johnson of Fargo, presently on active duty with the North Dakota Army National Guard in Accra, Ghana in Africa, Jeri Marie (Corran) Allen of Minneapolis, MN, and Joshua Johnson of Fargo; two great-grandchildren, Aniyah and Jett Johnson of Fargo; ten step-grandchildren and fourteen step-great-grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew; and numerous cousins.
