Erling R. Eide, 83, resident of Frazee, MN, died Monday, May 11, 2009 at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee.
Funeral Services for Erling will be held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Furey Funeral Home of Frazee. Visitation will be held at Furey Funeral Home on Thursday, May 14 from 1:00 PM until the time of services. Interment will be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
Erling Raymond Eide was born June 25, 1925 in Oslo, MN to Jacob and Clara (Nelson) Eide. He grew up near Oslo where he attended a rural country school. When Erling was 14 years old he worked as a farm hand for his brother-in-law on the family farm. He saved up enough money to purchase his first car and at the age of 15, he traveled to San Francisco, CA to work on the loading docks near the Pacific Ocean. In 1944, he was drafted into the United States Army and served during World War II where he was part of the European Tour of Operations (ETO) in Germany. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he moved to Leeds, ND and started his career as a heavy equipment operator for a construction company. In 1949 he met Beatrice Morkert, and together they were united in marriage on November 24, 1951. After marriage, Erling and Bea traveled to Oklahoma and Colorado before settling in Frazee, MN in 1970. Erling continued his working career with construction companies out of Fargo, ND before retiring in 1988. In his spare time, Erling loved to fish and was meticulous when it came to keeping his yard and gardens neat. He also enjoyed bird watching, small carpentry work and tinkering with small engines where his Allis- Chalmers was his pride and joy. Along with his wife Beatrice, Erling took great pride in his family and cherished the time spent with his grandchildren.
Erling will be remembered and missed by his wife of 57 years, Beatrice of Frazee, MN along with his children Cathie (Joseph) Huseby of Frazee, Curt (Bonnie) Eide of Fergus Falls, MN, Mira Kent of Frazee and Cindy (David) Allen of Nowata, OK. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, two sisters Nina Vail and Esther Mager and one brother; Wilbert (Esther) Eide.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Clarence, Melvin, Bjarne and Wilhelm sisters: Melinda Eide, Agnes Bishop and Gladys Berg along with one grandson: Brandon Kent.
Erling's family would like to say a special "Thank You" to Hospice Of The Red River Valley along with Frazee Care Center for the exceptional care they provided Erling during his stay.
