Gene W. Steeke, age 53, of Perham, MN, formerly of Frazee, MN, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle against cancer. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee with Rev. Aufdenkamp officiating. A luncheon will be hosted at the church following the service for all to attend. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, October 22, 2010 at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Funeral arrangements by Furey Funeral Home, Frazee, MN.
Gene was born July 25, 1957 at the Perham Hospital to Walter and Ruby (Krueger) Steeke. He was the youngest of 5 children. Gene grew up and attended school in Frazee, MN. Following his schooling, Gene gained employment with Clarence-Drewes Construction Company. He then began his trucking career with Foltz Trucking in Detroit Lakes. He later worked for Ray Johnston Trucking in Detroit Lakes and eventually drove his truck for Jennie-O Turkey Store in Perham and Henning, MN.
Gene was united in marriage to Diane Goodrich on June 26, 1980 in Detroit Lakes. This union was blessed with two children: Brian and Natalie.
When Gene was not busy with work, he enjoyed the outdoors and often could be found fishing the area lakes and also spent time deer and duck hunting. He enjoyed snowmobiling and riding his motorcycle. Gene will be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He found great companionship with his dogs. He was also known for his special connection with children and often brought them smiles and laughter. He was a loving husband and father, who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Diane of Perham, MN; his son, Brian (Marie Andring) of Lake Park, MN; his daughter, Natalie of Fargo, ND; 2 brothers: Calvin (JoAnn) and Glen, both of Frazee; a sister, Vickie Putney of Fargo; along with many nieces and nephews and honorary granddaughters Mya and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Bernice.
