Geraldine "Gerri" Kading, age 69, of rural Vergas, MN, passed away April 10, 2013.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Community Alliance Church in Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Lunch will be served at the church following the service.
Gerri was born July 31, 1943, in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was the first daughter born to Clifford and Elnora (Wefer) Heier. When Gerri was nine, she was blessed with the sister she had always wanted, Karen. Gerri grew up in Detroit Lakes, and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School with the class of 1961. Gerri and friends enjoyed attending dances in the area, and it was at one of these dances, that she met Elmer Kading. The couple was married on June 4, 1961, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Height of Land Township in rural Detroit Lakes. The couple made their home on a farm in Dora Township where they raised their family. Gerri truly loved her role as wife and mother and took great pride in caring for her growing and busy family. She enjoyed cooking and baking, and always served 3 hearty meals for her family each day. Her kids always counted on her to be there for them after school and keep them busy during the summer months. When her children were grown, Gerri eagerly took an active role in her grandchildren's lives. She enjoyed attending of participating in all of their activities.
Gerri and Elmer also enjoyed their annual trips to Branson, Missouri with family, and on a few occasions, friends. She had a soft spot in her heart for the family pets, most recently, her companion, Precious. She was strong in her faith in the Lord and enjoyed attending church.
Gerri is survived by her sons: Roger (Judy) of Moorhead, MN, Robert of Detroit Lakes, MN, Richard (R. Marie) of Perham, MN; her daughter, Rhonda (Tom) Franklin of Frazee, MN; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Karen (Darrell) Woessner of Detroit Lakes, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband of 50 years, Elmer.
