Gordon F. Poss, 81, resident of Vergas, MN, died Tuesday, September 25, 2012 near Vergas, MN.
Funeral services for Gordon will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:30PM in St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake, Vergas, MN. Visitation will be held Friday, September 28, 2012 from 4PM - 7:30PM with a 7:30PM Prayer Service at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior on Saturday. Interment will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Gordon "Gordy" Fred Poss was born August 21, 1931 at home in Lida Township to Fred and Erna (Thom) Poss. He was baptized September 20, 1931 and confirmed June 16, 1946 all at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He attended country school in District 108 near Vergas and later attended Pelican Rapids High School. On February 24, 1956 Gordon enlisted with the United States Army and proudly served his country overseas in Germany. He was honorably discharged January 31, 1962. After his father passed away in 1941, Gordon and his Mom took over the family farm. On October 4, 1980, Gordon was united in marriage to Joyce Marshall at St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Loon Lake. Gordon and Joyce continued farming until 1995. Following Gordon's retirement they moved into Vergas. Gordon was an avid outdoorsman. During his spare time, Gordon found love working in the woods and trapping. He also enjoyed lending a helping hand to friends, playing cards, going to dances, listening to old time music, attending the local baseball games and spending time with his many nieces and nephews.
Gordon is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joyce of Vergas, MN, two sisters: Elaine Adsero of Fargo, ND and Delia Wallace of Escondido, CA; sisters-in-law: Idella Petri of Nekoma, ND, Myrtle (Robert) Jennings of Langdon, ND, Norma (Daryl) Ophaug of Iowa, Grace Kearcher of South Dakota, brothers-in-law: Raymond (Kathy) Mutcher of Grand Forks, ND, Gordon Mutcher of Fargo, ND, Jim Baldson of Langdon, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sister: Alice Arvidson, three brothers-in-law: Robert Arvidson, Art Adsero and Robert Wallace.
