Henry J. Schreiner, 91, died peacefully September 2, 2016 at the Frazee Care Center.
Funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rosary prayed at 6:45 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be made at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Frazee.
Henry “Hank” was born January 21, 1925 in Erie Township to Henry and Catherine (Brixius) Schreiner. He attended country school at District 26-1. He met Arlene Schoenberger at the Erie 34 Club where they both worked. They were united in marriage on September 24, 1952 in Detroit Lakes, MN. They made their home in rural Detroit Lakes, where they started their family, then moving to Oregon for employment in the lumber industry. Later, Henry and Arlene moved back to Frazee where they raised 5 daughters.
Henry was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Men’s Bowling Association. He enjoyed playing whist with family and friends and many games of solitaire later in life. He enjoyed attending school activities of his daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He worked on his hobby farm and helped neighbors harvest crops in the summer and fall. He also spent hours helping his sons-in-law split wood. In the winter, he thoroughly enjoyed taking his daughters on snowmobile rides. Every November, deer hunting brought him many hours of enjoyment. Henry had a good time bowling making memories and friends. He also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins.
Henry was an extremely hard working man. One of his early jobs was delivering fuel for Standard Oil of Detroit Lakes. Henry also worked for the Hines Lumber Company in Hines, Oregon. Next, he was employed by Daggett Truck Line of Frazee logging many miles for the company. He then worked for Twin Haven Mink Ranch. After many years of working on the loading docks, Henry retired from Snappy’s Inc.
Henry will be remembered by many people for his huge smile, hearty handshakes and always being “SUPER”.
Henry is survived by his 5 daughters: Mary (Dennis) Kurth, Detroit Lakes, Jean (Bruce) Hein, Audubon, Susan (Tim) Stenger, Detroit Lakes, Sharon (Bud) Hensel, Frazee, Kathy Soltess, Fargo, ND; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and God children. He is also survived by 3 sisters: Elizabeth “Betty” Teiken, Detroit Lakes, Sister Mary Amy Schreiner, O.S.F., Little Falls and Rose “Rosie” Johnson, Burns, Oregon.
Henry is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents: Henry and Catherine Schreiner; 2 brothers: Art Schreiner and Cyril Schreiner; 2 sisters: Lidwina “Liddy” Franitza and Sister Cecelia Schreiner, O.S.F.; and granddaughter, April Stenger.
