Ida Marie Christine Carstens was born February 21, 1923 in Gorman Township, the daughter of Fredrick and Christina (Jorgenson) Weidemann. She passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Harvest Glenn in Perham Living.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church – Evergreen. Ida grew up near Evergreen and attended country school.
On May 12, 1943, she was united in marriage to Victor Carstens at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Evergreen. To this union four children were born. They made their home and farmed in rural Frazee. Ida was a loving mother and devoted wife, caring for the home and the children. She was a farm wife who helped milk cows, tend chickens, cook meals, and harvest the crops.
Ida enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and baking. She liked to go fishing, loved watching the Minnesota Twins, and playing cards with family and friends. For many years, she had a passion for crocheting and making quilts for family, friends, and the church. Ida was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran’s LWML and the quilting club.
She is survived by her children: Roger (Orleen Hoffman) Carstens of Sauk Centre; Kenneth (Phyllis) Carstens of Frazee; Karen (Bill) Mayfield of Frazee; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; son-in-law: Rev. Richard Miller of New Braunfels, Texas; sisters: Lorraine Ziegler of Perham; Darlene Lubitz of Perham; sister-in-law: Laura Carstens of Perham; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents: Fredrick and Christina Weidemann; husband: Victor Carstens in 2003; daughter: Carol Miller in 2004; sisters: Annie Rux and Hattie Wanderi; and brother: George Weidemann.
