Jolyn Jean (Hanson) Priem, age 52, of Vergas, MN, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family, under the care of Red River Valley Hospice team following a long courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Vergas Community Center. Visitation will be held 5-8:00 p.m., Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Vergas United Methodist Church with a prayer service to be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the Community Center on Saturday. Lunch will be hosted at the Community Center following the services. Interment will be made in the Vergas Village Cemetery.
Jolyn was born October 13, 1958 in Perham, MN to Rodney and Olive (Antonsen) Hanson. She grew up in Vergas and graduated from Frazee-Vergas High School in 1977. After graduation, she moved to Arizona for a couple years then moved to Bemidji, MN where she met her first husband, Delbert Heemstra. They lived in the Vergas area and she worked at Vergas State Bank for many years. During that time, they were blessed with two children: a daughter, Madison Heemstra and a son, Deacon Heemstra.
Jolyn is a member of the United Methodist Church in Vergas where she held many duties. She was the superintendent for the Sunday school, the financial secretary for many years and really enjoyed working with the kids on the church music programs. In 1991, she started working full-time at Hanson's Plumbing and Heating and became co-owner with two of her brothers, Robin and Jeff.
On March 7, 1997, she married Tim Priem in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. This union added a step-son, David to her family. Tim and Jolyn settled in Vergas. She was a member of Vergas Community Club and also served on Vergas City Council for a couple of terms. They loved to go camping on Rose Lake, 3rd Crow Wing and Itasca State Park. They did manage to take the camper to the Lake of Ozarks in Missouri and also out to the states of Colorado and South Dakota. They also enjoyed many trips to Mexico with family and close friends. Jolyn loved to spend time with her family and friends ~~ and of course dance when she could.
Jolyn is survived by her husband, Tim; daughter, Madison Heemstra of Moorhead, MN; son, Deacon Heemstra of Fargo, ND; son, David (Nicole) Priem of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter, Haven Priem of Atlanta, GA; parents, Rodney and Olive Hanson of Frazee, MN; 3 brothers: Robin (Jen) Hanson of Perham, MN, Marty (Nancy) Hanson of Pelican Rapids, MN and Jeff (Terrie) Hanson of Vergas, MN; 3 brother and sister-in-laws; Dean (Sharon) Priem of Caldwell, TX, Dennis (Barb) of Long Prairie, MN and David (Ranee) Priem of Hot Springs, SD; many nieces and nephews and many great friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her infant brother; Jeffrey; father-in-law, Jerry Priem; mother-in-law, Arlyss Priem; and sister-in-law, Carneil (Priem) Johnson.
