Marjorie (Margie) Schwandt, 85, died Tuesday August 8th, 2017 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, MN, surrounded by family.
Marjorie Jean Warter was born on February 12th, 1932 to Albert and Alvina (Laasch) Warter in Frazee, MN. She grew up on a farm in Height of Land Township.
She graduated from Frazee High School in 1950. Margie met her husband Duane while both were working at Tom Thumb Resort in Detroit Lakes, MN. They were married August 13th, 1950 in Bemidji, MN.
Margie and Duane moved to their present farm in 1956 where they remained for the next sixty plus years, adding four daughters to their family.
Margie worked hard alongside Duane at the farm, putting up endless canned goods, raising chickens and sheep, and providing meals with freshly baked bread and cookies for any and all. Their farm was also home to many beloved pets.
She enjoyed gardening and tending flowers, working for a time at Bergen's in Detroit Lakes and Jean's in Perham. Margie achieved Master Gardener status through MN Extension. She sewed beautifully, making many of her children's clothes. She was a member of the church quilting group and with them created hundreds of beautiful, useful quilts for people around the world.
She is survived by her daughters: Diane Bruhn, Vergas, MN, Carol (Bruce) Albright, Barnesville, MN, Janine Bunkowski, Lauderdale, MN, and Leann (Kevin) Lehner, Lakes Mills, WI; grandchildren: Ryan (Lisa Preuss) Bruhn, Sara (Greg) Sliter, Jed Bunkowski, Laura Bunkowski, and Alec Albright; great-grandchildren: Morgan, Mallory, Ava, Ella, Olivia, Lyncyn, Xavyer, and Tevyn; sister-in-law, Emily (Neil) Anderson; nieces: Carmen Fingerson, Judie (Jack) Leitch, Susan (John) Sanders, Betty Watts, Ginny Anderson and nephew, Stewart (Arlene) Wirth; and many other relatives and countless friends.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents, Albert and Alvina; sister, Elvera (Joe) Wirth; parents-in-law, Reinhardt and Tess Schwandt; grandson, Aaron Albright; and son-in-law, Steve Bruhn.
Her hard work is done. She is dancing with Duane.
Visitation: Friday, August 11, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., prayer service at 7:00 p.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, MN.
Celebration of life: Saturday, August 12, 11:00 a.m., Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Frazee, MN. Visitation one hour prior to service.
