Michael King

March 12, 1958 — May 26, 2016

Michael King, age 58, of Frazee, passed away at his home on Thursday, May 26, 2016. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee.  Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee with a prayer service to take place at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Mike was born to Paul and Jean King on March 12, 1958 at Letterman Army Hospital in San Francisco, California. Born into a Marine family, he moved several times; his family settled in Swansboro, a small coastal town in North Carolina. He graduated from Swansboro High School in 1976. Mike loved the water and he decided to join the Navy in 1985 where he became a First Class Parachute Rigger. He was honorably/medically discharged in March 2000. In 1996 he was working as an instructor in Navy A School in Memphis, TN when he met Frazee native, Dawn Dretsch, a Navy senior chief. They moved to Frazee after her 2002 retirement where they finished raising his two children, Reanna and Jordan. Mike’s “retirement” turned into managing his father-in-law’s (Tony Dretsch) farm. He loved the farm and his horses, especially Red. He enjoyed restoring Tony’s “stuff.” He was happiest when he was outside working in his yard or being in his boat with his dog, Slick. He loved fishing, hunting and playing golf. When he couldn’t be outside in the Minnesota winters, he decided to master scroll sawing. He shared his beautiful pieces with his family and friends. Mike is preceded in death by his father, Paul King. Survivors include his wife Dawn of Frazee and his daughter Reanna King Gerving (Richard), grandson Ashton and son Jordan King, all of Frazee; his mother, Jean King of Swansboro, NC, his sister Kathy Baden (Bruce) of Kernersville, NC and nephew Ben (Margaret) of Nashville, TN.
