Michael Mindermann

Michael John Mindermann, age 61, of Vergas, MN, passed away peacefully under the care of Red River Valley Hospice, surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, October 13, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Furey Funeral Home with a prayer service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Burial will be made at Gorman Township Cemetery following the service. Furey Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements. www.fureyfh.com.

Michael was born February 7, 1956, in Perham, MN, to Alvin and Margie (Hinshaw) Mindermann. Michael grew up in Perham, where he attended school graduating with the class of 1974. Following his schooling, he worked for the family business, Mindermann Brothers Construction. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Chadwick. The couple was blessed with a son, Kristopher. The couple lived on Cotton Lake, near Detroit Lakes for a time, then moved to Colorado, where Michael worked for a construction company there. In 1986, Michael moved to the Vergas area, where he lived with “the girls”, his two beloved Pomeranians, Snowball and Cinnamon. He then began working with his father and brothers at Mindermann Builders and Designers until retiring, due to his health.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, designing and building, walks with “the girls”, cooking lots of food and inviting everyone over, and loved the time he spent with his family. He would go out of his way to do anything for anyone. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings Fan, and had an ongoing rivalry with his sister, Patty, over her love of the Green Bay Packers.

He was a proud member of “NA” Narcotics Anonymous. He was alcohol free for 14 years and drug free for 9 years. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church where he maintained his membership and he helped build the new church. Michael always encouraged everyone he met to “smile”.

Michael is survived by mother, Margie (Ron) (Mindermann) Zuberbier of Detroit Lakes; son, Kristopher Mindermann of Vergas, MN; brother, Jerome Mindermann of Vergas; 2 sisters: Suzanne (Charles) Bachman of Brainerd, and Patricia (Philip) deWeese of Mt. Horeb, WI; along with many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Mindermann; and brother, Thomas Mindermann.
