Michael “Mike” Wasvick, born November 9, 1948, in Breckenridge, MN, grew up on a farm outside of Lidgerwood, ND, until his parents bought a restaurant in Lidgerwood where he helped cook breakfast before he went to school. He graduated from Lidgerwood High School in 1966 and attended the State School of Science where he received his degree in Machine Shop/Welding. He married Jane Trinka October 28, 1967. Jane was attending UND so he went to work at UND in Grand Forks, ND, where he spent 18 years building and repairing research equipment. He next worked at the Department of Energy as a Safety Officer for 2 years. His next career move was to Agassiz Enterprises in Grand Forks where he spent 22 years as the Business/Production Manager assisting Mentally Disabled clients. After living 33 years in Grand Forks, Mike and Jane moved to his beloved home on Sybil Lake near Vergas, MN. He studied and became a Real Estate Broker in the Detroit Lakes area while Jane worked at the hospital in Detroit Lakes. When Jane took a position in Cando, ND, Mike became the Maintenance Supervisor at Towner County Medical Center. In 2012, Jane took a position where she travelled and could live at home, Mike retired and they moved back to their lake home.
Mike was an amazing “fix-it” guy, he would constantly impress his family and others with his innate ability to see what was wrong with something and figure out a better way to accomplish the task or fix the problem. He added on an impressive shop to his lake home and built furniture and invented equipment to make life easier at the lake. He loved to fish and hunt taking several trips with his son, Steve, his grandsons, his brothers, and friends. He loved his family and hosted many events like the 4
th
of July picnic where 65 members of his family attended this summer. He had many hobbies where he would buy a new piece of equipment, learn how to use it, and share his skills with others. One example was his smoker where he turned out many delicious ribs for family and friends.
He adored his grandsons in Grand Forks following many of their sports events especially hockey and having them come to the lake.
He was active in the Vergas Lions and Sybil Lake Association. He was a member of the Vergas Methodist Church where after church he enjoyed having coffee and exchanging fish stories with his friends. He enjoyed travelling taking several family trips.
He is survived by his wife, Jane, his son, Steve (Teresa) Wasvick of Grand Forks, ND, daughter Tiffany Wasvick of East Grand Forks, MN, daughter Stephanie Wasvick of West Fargo, ND, 6 grandsons, Nathan, Justin, and Ryan Wasvick in Grand Forks, Eion Wasvick, stationed in Germany, Jordan Costanzo in New Jersey, and Ayden Boone in Massachusetts.
