Ralph Engel

April 14, 1924 — December 25, 2013

Ralph E. Engel, 89, Frazee, MN, died Wednesday, December 25 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, December 30 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Reverend William Aufdenkamp, officiating. Interment will be in Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery with Military Rites provided by Heart O Lakes V.F.W. Post 7702.

Friends may call 5:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday, December 30 with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.

Ralph Ernest Engel was born April 14, 1924 in Sanborn, MN to Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Tode) Engel. He moved with his family to rural Frazee as a child, attending rural Frazee School. Following his education, Ralph served with the U. S. Navy on a mine sweeper. Following his discharge, he returned to Frazee where he farmed with his parents. Ralph was united in marriage to Joan Butler, June 11, 1946 in Dilworth, MN. They farmed near Hungry Lake in rural Frazee for 13 years. Ralph then founded Ralph Engel Construction Company, building homes in the area until retiring in 1990.

He enjoyed time with his family, fishing, hunting, mowing, snow blowing and Square Dancing. He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and is Past Commander of Heart O Lakes V. F. W. Post 7702.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Joan of Frazee, 2 sons: Terry (Charlene) of Frazee, Denis (Ida) of Detroit Lakes, 6 grandchildren: Toni, Darin, Wayne, Sandy, Michele and Scot; 12 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and one on the way. He was preceded in death by a son, Rick, his parents, 4 brothers: Francis, Bob, Walt, Harold, 5 sisters: Margaret, Clara, Grace, Emma and Ethel. Furey Funeral Home is serving the family.
