Terry W. Hockett

July 22, 1949 — November 2, 2025

Terry Wayne Hockett passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, at Pelican Valley Senior Living, Riverfront on Main.

He was born on July 22, 1949, to Wayne and Gladys (Moen) Hockett in Perham, MN. He was also raised by his stepmother, Esther (Parrish).

Terry attended country school and graduated from Frazee High School in 1967. After high school, he furthered his education at Fergus Falls Community College and Staples Technical College, where he studied heavy equipment operation. He went on to work for various construction companies operating heavy equipment.

In the early 1970s, Terry met his future wife, Beverly Hensel. They were married on December 2, 1972, and were blessed with four children.

Terry's passion for farming began in the spring of 1973 when he took on the responsibility of the family farm. Over the years, he worked diligently to maintain and grow the farm, starting by raising pigs and sheep, then transitioning to beef cattle. His love for animals, including his cats and dogs, was evident throughout his life.

In addition to farming, Terry was an active member of his community. He served on the Frazee Co-op Farm Service Board and was a dedicated member of the Hobart Township Board for 28 years. He also worked for 16 years at BTD Manufacturing in Detroit Lakes, all while continuing to manage the farm.

In his free time, Terry enjoyed deer hunting —especially trips to Montana, ice fishing, netting fish, reading books and spending time with his grandchildren. He had a deep passion for history, often reading books about the Civil War.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Gladys, and his stepmother, Esther. his grandparents, Elgar and Carrie Hockett, and Gilbert and Clara Moen; his in-laws, Marvin and Betty Hensel; and his sister-in-law, Kay Hockett.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Beverly; his children: Tim (Tanya), Patrick (Stephanie), Mitch (Kaija), and Jackie (Brian) Fradet; and nine grandchildren: Trevor, Trenton, and Treyson Hockett; Rudee, Shea, and Ella Hockett; and Annika, Brynna, and Connor Fradet. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Hockett.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Pelican Valley Senior Living and Vivie Hospice for their wonderful care and support during Terry’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, and if so inclined, memorials are preferred. With these memorials, the family will plant trees in Terry's honor.
