Thomas D. Oswald, 51, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Thursday, June 16, 2016, at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital in Detroit Lakes. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Christian Fellowship Church in Detroit Lakes, Pastors Stan Birky and Jim Erb, officiating. Interment will be in the Lake Region Mennonite Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes.
There will be a time of gathering 5:00 - 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 21, 2016 with sharing at 7:00 PM at Furey Funeral Home in Frazee. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Thomas Darrell Oswald was born October 15, 1964 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Dale W. and Lois (Hoffman) Oswald. He was raised in the Frazee, MN area and was a 1983 graduate of Frazee High School. Tom was united in marriage to Lori Vogt, June 1, 1985 in Detroit Lakes. During his working life, Tom was a turkey inseminator, drove truck and operated his own concrete finishing business until an accident forced his retirement in 2004. Since the accident, Tom had been at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes and, for the past 10 years, has lived at Lakes Homes in Detroit Lakes.
Tom enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars, demo derbies, raising pheasants, camping, music and music festivals.
Survivors include his wife, Lori of Detroit Lakes, a son, Mitchell of Detroit Lakes, a grandson, Myson Oswald of Detroit Lakes, 2 sisters: Judy (Bruce) Palm of Rochert, MN, Kathy (Jack) Dretsch of Frazee, MN, 8 brothers: Dale "Dennis" (Connie) of Detroit Lakes, Jerry (Marlys) of Frazee, Gordon of Osage, Harley (Marie) of Kerkhoven, MN, Larry (Shelly) of Wolf Lake, MN, Tim of Detroit Lakes, Chris of Frazee and Cory of Frazee, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Lois, his step-mother, Gloria, a brother, Patrick and a sister, Shirley Birky.
