Marion Aschnewitz

March 2, 1950 — January 9, 2020

Marion L. Aschnewitz, 69, a lifelong resident of Evergreen, MN, passed away Thursday, January 9th, 2020 in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Marion Lucille Aschnewitz was born March 2, 1950, in Perham, MN, to Gottleib “George” and Doloris Weidemann.  She was baptized at her home in rural Evergreen where her family resided. Marion was confirmed into the Christian faith on April 11, 1965 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Evergreen.  She attended elementary school in Frazee, graduating with the class of 1968 at Frazee High School.

On May 8, 1976, Marion was united in marriage to Wilmar James Aschnewitz.  They resided on the family farm and started their family. Marion and Wilmar welcomed seven children: Jeridan, Justin, Jerlyn, Jerron, Jamie, Josie, and Joslyn; known as the “J team”.  Throughout life, Marion instilled in her children a true love for family, a strong work ethic and a life centered on Christ.

Marion believed her most important job was to farm by Wilmar’s side and raise her children. As the children grew older she still helped Wilmar with the day to day farm chores and worked various jobs. After retiring, she took her proudest job of all- being grandma. Marion enjoyed spending time with her family, driving tractor, going to the stockyard, and being president of the Wolf Lake VFW Auxiliary. She spent many hours on the lake catching fish with family. Marion would often challenge her grandchildren to catch as many fish as she could but she would always win. From day one of her diagnosis with cancer, she never let it define the life she was going to live. Marion continued to surround herself with the things that mattered most to her, God and family.

Marion was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her family will remember her as a loving and generous person who helped anyone who needed it. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Evergreen and proud member of the Wolf Lake VFW Auxiliary Post #8165.

Marion will be remembered and dearly missed by her seven children: Jeridan (Annette) along with their children, Sarah, Jesse and Emily; Justin (Sheila) and their children: Westin, Addison and Kaija; Jerlyn (Jonathon) Hensel and their children: Seth and Andrea; Jerron (Amanda) and their children:  MaKayla, Chandler, Ella, Parker and Erik; Jamie (Gary) Leach and their children: Hunter and Kaylee; Josie (Matthew) Johnson and their children: Clayton, William, Mya and Kailei;  Joslyn (Kyle) Keskitalo and their children: Ariana, Britta, Gunther, Freja and baby “K” due in June.  In addition, she is survived by her siblings:  Dennis Weidemann, Lynn (Carmen) Bell and Diane (Joe) Sazama.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wilmar in 2019 and her parents, George and Doloris.
