Vernon Moltzan

Vernon Kenneth Moltzan was born April 6, 1928, in Vergas, Minnesota, the son of Adolph and Marion (Boe) Moltzan. He passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.

He grew up in the Vergas area and attended country school. As a young man, Vernon worked as a farm hand, built silos, and at the Ice Works on Detroit Lakes. Vernon proudly served his country in the United States Navy receiving his honorable discharge in 1950.

On March 10, 1953, he was united in marriage to Winnie Moon at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes. To this union five children were born.

Early in their marriage, Vernon and Winnie owned and operated the Spruce Grove Dance Hall. He also worked for Swift Turkey Plant as a loading dock foreman, was a rural mail carrier, drove cement truck, and worked in sales retiring in 1983 from Detroit Lakes Jobbing Company.

He was active in the Frazee V.F.W. and Becker County 4-H and served on the Becker County Fair Board. Vernon enjoyed card playing, hunting, fishing, and spending time on his hobby farm. He and Winnie liked to go camping, spent winters in Arizona and listened to old time music.

Vernon is survived by his children: Roger (LaVerne) Moltzan of Frazee; Ruth (Mike) Gendron of Hampton, VA; Pam (Ed) Zurn of Raymond, MN; grandchildren: Erica, Hope, Nathan, Madison, Caitlin; step-grandchildren: Joe and Matt; great-grandchildren: Jase, Olive, Milo; siblings: Butch (LaVerne) Moltzan of Frazee, MN; Huns Moltzan of Dent, MN; Ruby Spurgeon of Dent, MN., sister-in-laws: Martha Probst, St. Louis Park, MN, Alice Vangerud, West Fargo, ND, and brother-in-laws: Isel Vangerud, West Fargo, ND, Harold Bauer, Vadnais Heights, MN.

Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM with family reflections and a time of sharing at 7:00 PM at Furey  Funeral Home in Frazee. Visitation will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church.
